The quickstart is intended for users who already have a basic understanding of software testing. For a gentler introduction to Axcept, please head to our tutorial section.
To get you up and running quickly, a demo application is used to guide you through some of the platform key characteristics. If you follow the video instructions below a test definition should be done in 5 minutes.
The video covers the following tasks:
- Add a new project to your Axcept dashboard
- Add a new test to your new project
- Add test steps for user interactions and screenshot validations
- Running Previews of the defined test steps
- Live debugging of test steps using integrated Chrome Devtools
- Review the test preview results by using the review wizard
- Start a new test runner and review results
It is required to have an Axcept account, to follow the instruction from the video. Once you have successfully created a new account, please log in to the Axcept platform. More information can be accessed here.
If you log in for the first time, an assistant will help you get started
1 Navigation header
The navigation header is used to access application-specific sections. If no projects are available, only a limited set of functionalities are exposed. After the creation of a new project, more items will be displayed to enable further administration and configuration.
2 Project assistant
To get you up and running faster, the project assistant automatically appears in case there are no available projects. You can choose between an empty project or example test project/suite. The example test suite is used for demonstration purpose and helps you to get started quickly and continue your platform evaluation.
3 Getting Started assistant
The roadmap characteristics of the Getting Started assistant support you with information which is required to get started with your first project.

Create an empty project
Click on the button located in the Empty Project section to create your first Axcept project.
Fill out the form and continue by pressing the submit button.
After a few seconds, your newly created project can be accessed via the Axcept dashboard. 🎉 Congratulations you have successfully created your first Axcept project. 🎉
Create a test
Next, we can create our first test. Tests are defined using the Axcept test editor. Press the Open test editor button to proceed.
That creates a blank test. Assign a meaningful name and description to your test.
In general, a test is constructed by defining individual test steps. To define a test step, click on the dropdown located in the Add new step section.
Once you define a test step, you are ready to preview your defined test. Press the Preview button to execute the test. A new browser window will open. This window will show you every action in a preview mode. Once the test completes the Chrome Dev tools open up which enables you to inspect elements, styles and console logs.
If you are heading back to the Axcept test editor a warning is shown in the defined test step. You can also see a new attached screenshot of the tested application. Press Set Reference and save your changes using the Save button located on the bottom right corner of your browser window.
Let's add another test step to do something more sophisticated. It should automatically type a text into the input field. To do that a new test step needs to be added with the following configuration.
To validate the result an additional screenshot test step is required. The test step configuration should look as follows
To apply the changes you need to save. Once the test was saved successfully let's preview the defined test again. When the test completes, you need to set the new references.
Now let's simulate a potential change by modifying the value of the input field. Scroll to the Add test step and change the value. Save your changes and restart the test using Preview.
The test should now fail because of the third test step. To successfully pass the test again you need to review the test step. Therefore click on Review. The review wizard opens. Use the wizard actions to interact and accept the correct changes.
Retry the test Preview. The conflict should be resolved. 🎉 Congratulations you have created your first test. 🎉
A convenient way to execute all tests of a project is to use test runners. During the test run, you get real-time feedback of passed and failed tests. To enter the test runner dashboard click on your project located in the navigation header.
Execute a test run by pressing Start Test Run.
🎉 Congratulations you have successfully started your first test run. 🎉
